I’ve fully settled into working through Robert Crais’s books. This is the fourth in the Elvis Cole series published in 1993.
Elvis Cole, is a great character, he’s funny and sarcastic. He has great throw away lines and able to follow the trail to keep the story moving. In this book Jennifer Sheridan walks into Elvis Cole’s office and hires him to investigate her boyfriend and LAPD officer Mark Thurman who is hiding something from her, and she’s afraid he’s been involved in a crime.
Cole begins to find things that point to Mark being in serious trouble. What has Mark gotten himself into? Can Cole and his partner Joe Pike get him out of it?
It’s an interesting case, which unfolds quickly. There are surprises, both good and bad, and the stakes keep going up for Elvis, Joe, Jennifer, Mark, and the others in the book. As with the previous Elvis Cole books you are constantly wondering how things can be resolved.
