I have a dream of an ideal Christmas Eve, which goes something like…
|Meet some friends at Cafe Cosmo in the GFT
Have a little drink, some mulled wine and mince pies (the only time over Christmas I’ll force these things down)
Get a seat at the front of the top section of Screen One
Watch It’s a Wonderful Life trying not to remember every line
Leave the cinema with a warm glow, lump in the throat and tear in the eye
During the movie the streets have been covered by snow -deep and crisp and even-
Walk along Sauchiehall Street and Woodlands Road while the snow gently falls
Perhaps stopping for a drink, coffee or hot choc
Go to the Midnight Service at St Silas
See in Christmas day there by remember the sacrifice of God becoming human
This year there are already three people going, but if anyone wants to join us let me know, I’ll be getting tickets this week. It is the ideal way to get into that Christmas feeling after all the seasonal rush.
Can’t guarantee the snow I’m afraid.
PS although I have been to the Christmas Eve showing of It’s a Wonderful Life lots of times it has never worked out as described above. What with worrying about people arriving late, saving seats, who wants to walk and who wants to drive, the folk behind rustling sweet wrappers all the way through the movie, pushing through drunks all the way home, rain…. but perhaps this year!
